Directions for Installation
- Place Key-Leveling Tabs (Smooth Side Up) over the balance pins, underneath
all punchings as shown, with the thin end of the slot against the balance pin. Lay them
out so that they are parallel to the key buttons, without overlapping.
You may need to trim a few tabs if you have narrow keys, or tight balance pin
spacing (scissors work great). Tabs must contact the balance rail.
If the piano is to be moved long distance, secure the keys, or transport the action separately.
Note: Tab tips are bent down intentionally to increase visibility. You may bend the tabs up and down as much as you like to achieve a proper fit.
- After installing the keys, add or remove paper punchings on top of the tabs to get the keys within 1/16” (1.5mm) low before adjusting the tabs’ position. On most pianos, the tabs can raise key height about 1/8”, however leaving room for future leveling is desirable, particularly if you are using new balance cloth punchings.
Guarantees
- All products manufactured by Rawson Piano Service are guaranteed to be free of defect for 10 years from the date of sale.
- Rawson Key-Leveling Tabs, (when used as directed), are guaranteed not to break under even the heaviest of keys, however as you pull, lifting up a little on heavy keys or keys with tight balance holes can make adjustment easier.
- Rawson Key-Leveling Tabs, (when installed as directed), will compress over time as will regular paper punchings, but are made with premium, industrial grade materials, and are guaranteed not to slip out of position as long as the keys rest on top, even under the most rigorous playing. Secure the keys if piano is to be moved long distances on its side.
Storage
Key-Leveling Tabs should be stored indoors, out of direct sunlight. It may be helpful to leave a copy of the instructions with the piano.
